Knitting Resolutions

Today I went yarn purchasing as a treat to reward myself for actually applying for school

A Semi Local (hour away) Yarn store is going out of business, which sucks cause now the closest decent one is really far away... Anyway Everything was %30-%50 percent off Hooray.
I spent $60 and left with 3 skeins of alpaca paint int blue/green/yellow (I am madly in love with this yarn.). 7 assorted skeins of Wool for crazy toy making (wow could i be any vaguer?) and a couple of circular needles.

now for the knitting resolutions

1. I will finish making my second Fetching Fingerless mitts before I cast on for the hat out of that pretty pink/blue/purple stuff from yesterdays post

2. I will knit at least the ribbed border on said hat before starting another project.

3. I will Frog the beach wrap skirt that I hate so that the pretty maroon and white mercurized cotton can be reincarneted as something non-evil.

4. I will not buy any more yarn until I can actually fit the current batch into my plastic drawers.... This may take months

5. I will not be to hard on myself when I start making a knitted toy immediately after posting this :)

Pictures Sweater and Knitty's Fetching

The previously mentioned little red sweater

Knitty.com Fetching pattern. Fingerless gloves made out of Alpaca paint. Present for my mom, gave to her already, couldn't wait for Christmas.
Ball of yarn. (Twilleys of Stamford Freedom Spirit) I fell in love with it at my LYS they only had one ball in this colorway... purchased with no pattern plan. Look at the pretty colors.. I'm thinking a hat.. a basic pattern to show off the pretty :)

Must finish atleast one of the many projects i have in progress first.... maybe

Sweater

Just finished knitting a sweater. Made it without a pattern, cast on some stiches and knitted till it looked right.

It's a top down Raglan Sweater knit in the round, made out of some disgusting $2 a skein stuff from walmart (Napier by Sean Sheep in Wine). It goes from being as thin as 3 strands of thread twisted around to being thicker than my attempt at home spinning. Made for an interesting bumpy effect.

Only real problem is that its smaller than i wanted it... Oh Well It'll fit somebody :)

I'll stuck a photo up when i'm done blocking (and when i can find the camera)

First attempt at handspinning Yarn

Found a drop spindle and some fibre at the PNE, purchased it and goofed around for a while, here's what i ended up with

After plying but before blocking
Look Yarn :) it ranges from bulky, to super bulky to What is this nautical rope?

Blobb of yarn on couch

it's way to short and blobby to make anything with, it's like 5 yards :)

Felted Needle Case

Yay a finished project.

Here it is before felting.
I decided it needed a little extra Oomph. So it got a single crochet border of sorts. My first atempt at that, hoorah for learning something new.

Hand felting supplies... Big Bowl, Wooden Spoon, Soapy water, and Stargate SG-1 Season 3 DVD.
An episode later....
Then Finally after much Splashing and cold water rinsing Voila.
Here's how it looks tied shut.

And stuffed full of knitting needles.

I finished this yesterday. I haven't knit at all today, spent 3hrs making a vegetarian version of shephards pie an several hours making a costume for Saturday's Zombie walk. Bwahahahaha

Works in progress

Work in Progress #1
started 08/20/2007

This will be a Felted Needle Case based loosely on this Lion Brand pattern except with some way more exciting Norwegian Wool (fritidsgarn) and a slightly different stitch count.

I hope it felts up ok. oops forgot to do one of those test swatches.

Work in Progress #2
Started about 08/08/2007

Beach wrap skirt, maybe, made of some sort of cotton that i've long since lost the ball band for.

So far it's been fun knitting.

Work in progress #3
Started sometime in June

One lonely little sock. It's matching buddy is about an inch past the ankle ribbing. A couple more weeks of bus trips and it should be a matching pair.

And Finally...

Work in progress #4

Started about a year and a half ago

I introduce the "Blanket of DOOM"

Planned for 3 stripes of each color. Knit in Stockinette stitch.

It's hard to tell from the photo but it currently measures 12 feet by almost 4 feet. When done i'm guessing it will be 12 feet by 7 feet. A crazy huge giant. Its boring knitting. I haven't picked it up in months

Must resist the urge to start new projects with today's stash additions.... 100% alpaca

Felted messenger bag

Hello Blog
